The Different Ways to Make Alkaline Water at Home

Ok, so there are a several different ways to make alkaline water at home, but not all are the same. Some are better than others, and some are not recommended AT ALL.

In this blog I will give a detailed analysis of each method of creating filtered water with the pros and cons of each.

Kitchen, alkaline water, home,

8 Ways of Changing the PH of Your Water

     1.      Lemons and limes
     2.       Baking soda
     3.       pH drops
     4.       Brita filters (or similar store-bought filters)
     5.       Water distillers
     6.       Reverse osmosis filters
     7.       Electronic water ionizers

Lemons and Limes

Adding either of these fresh fruit juices has great health benefits, but I wouldn’t rely on this method for my sole source of alkaline water. Lemons and limes make the water acidic, but the after digestion the resultant pH is alkaline. It is refreshing first thing in the morning and can jump start your metabolism. However, it does not have all of the same qualities alkaline water does and can’t be considered a true alkaline water.

Baking soda

Baking soda is used to make alkaline water, as I have shown in this YouTube video, but baking soda is most certainly not a viable replacement for true alkaline water. For one, it is horrible to drink. Secondly, the salt content isn’t an option for people with high blood pressure, predisposition to water retention and swelling, and other health issues.

While baking soda can raise the pH of the water, it doesn’t increase the ORP of the water or add the
other alkaline minerals you get from true alkaline water.

PH Drops

There are various brands of pH drops, which can alkalize water, raise the pH of the water, a bit. But, they are expensive and I would only suggest them if you don’t have access to a water ionizer. The reason I don't suggest them is that these drops don’t provide the antioxidant property one gets from an alkaline water ionizer. So, while these are great on the go, I don’t recommend them as your only source of alkaline water.

Brita Water Filter (and similar store-bought filters)

I don’t recommend these filters. Some filters have actually been found to lower the pH of the water, or make it more acidic, which is NOT what you want. They can also be quite costly, having to replace the filters very few weeks, depending on water consumption.

If you want a water pitcher that will raise the pH of your water and lightly ionize it, check out the Alkaline Plus PH Ionizer Pitcher I offer here. After testing many brands of alkaline water pitchers I chose this one, because I found it to be the most effective one.

Water Distillers

Distilled water is boiled, killing any bacteria or viruses, and then vaporized to separate out all impurities. The pure water vapor is then condensed back into water. While the heavy metals, chlorine and most other impurities are removed, so are the alkalizing minerals. This leaves us with an acidic water, which it not desirable. I don’t recommend this type of water for regular consumption. Eventually if you continue over a long period to drink water that is void of all minerals your bones and joints can become robbed of their hard-earned alkaline minerals. You don't want to do that.

Reverse Osmosis Water

I have talked about RO (and distilled) water before, and I don’t recommend it, unless it has a re-mineralization feature. Here are two of my earlier articles:

An RO membrane forces the water through a fine mesh that filters out all minerals, even the good ones. This means that all alkalizing minerals are removed by a reverse osmosis machine. This de-mineralized water is actually bad for you. You need these minerals for innumerable functions of your body.

So here we are at THE best way to provide yourself and your family with alkaline water. I have researched, written about, discussed and broadly promoted alkaline water ionizers. No other water surpasses alkaline ionized water. From the micro-clustered water molecules that are far easier for your cells to absorb, to the antioxidant properties hard at work ridding your body of free radicals, to the high pH helping to alkalize your body, this is hands down the most beneficial water you can consume.

If you truly want to start your family and yourself on a healthier path, look no further than in your kitchen, starting with your kitchen sink. Check out our water ionizers here. There’s one for every budget and we even have refurbished units. And, as always, our 60-day money-back guarantee will let you try a quality ionizer, worry free. But, I can almost guarantee you won’t want to return it.
