Reverse-Osmosis Water, Distilled Water and Your Health

Often when you hear someone mention reverse-osmosis (RO) or distilled water you think it’s better than other kinds of water, especially tap water. But, I wanted to talk to you today and give you some information on why RO and distilled water are not better and can actually be harmful to you.

What Exactly is Reverse-Osmosis Water?

Reverse-osmosis water is water that has been forced through a membrane which eliminates 90-99% of all contaminants and minerals. Now the eliminated minerals is the real problem. Sure, contaminants are not welcome in our drinking water, but the alkaline minerals are very beneficial to our bodies.

How Does Reverse-Osmosis Negatively Affect Our Bodies?

There was a study conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the latter part of the 1970s that showed continual consumption of RO water actually has a negative effect on the body.
It was found while testing on animals, mostly rats, that the consumption of this kind of water led to several different negative occurrences: increased water intake, increased or excessive production of urine, extracellular fluid content and lowered red blood cell counts. These same effects were confirmed in people who volunteered to participate in the study.

Other more recent studies suggest that the intake of water low in minerals, may be associated with higher risk of fracture in children (Verd Vallespir et al. 1992), certain neurodegenerative diseases (Jacqmin et al. 1994), pre-term birth and low weight at birth (Yang et al. 2002), some types of cancer (Yang et al. 1997; Yang et al. 1998, Yang et al. 1999a; Yang et al. 1999b; Yang et al. 1999c; Yang et al. 2000), an increased risk of sudden death (Eisenberg 1992; Bernardi et al. 1995; Garzon and Eisenberg 1998), a higher risk of motor neuronal disease (Iwami et al. 1994), and preeclampsia (Melles & Kiss 1992).

You can find another article I wrote on this subject here.

Cooking with Mineral-Depleted Water

It has been found that cooking with soft water (water low in minerals) leads to the loss of all essential elements from the food, but, in contrast, when cooking with hard water, there is very little to no loss of these same essential elements.

The Best Water to Choose

I highly recommend purchasing an electronic water ionizer, which will give you alkaline mineral-enriched water that is very beneficial to you.

Spider Veins, Varicose Veins and Alkaline Ionized Water

The season of shorts, summer dresses and swimming suits is upon us and I would like to help you manage this bothersome ailment, if not help you get rid of it completely.

varicose veins, alkaline water, ionized water

If you suffer from spider veins you know how unsightly they can be. And if you suffer from varicose veins you know they are not only unsightly, but can be painful. Today I’m going to cover how drinking alkaline ionized water has not only helped my spider veins, but also how it has helped many others and why.

What are spider veins and varicose veins?

Spider veins are dilated veins close to the skin’s surface. They are usually red or blue and look like a spider’s web or tree branches. They are normally found on the legs and/or face.

Varicose veins are red or blue swollen veins where blood has pooled and caused the distention of the vein due to poor circulation. The valves in the veins which are supposed to prevent blood from flowing in the wrong direction are malfunctioning and so the blood starts flowing back down, away from the heart, and so blood pools in the affected veins. They are usually found on the legs and are most common in women above the age of 50. However, anyone can suffer from them and they can be hereditary.

Both problems stem from the same issue, malfunctioning valves in the veins, however, varicose veins are a more extreme case of malfunction.

How Does Alkaline Water Help?

As I have previously written in a  former blog post and in my own testimonial page , I have noticed that drinking alkaline ionized water with higher than -400 ORP levels has helped get rid of my spider veins! The rest of this article is devoted to explaining why this is, and giving you tips to help you replicate what I did, i.e., rid yourself of spider veins.

There are two reasons why I believe drinking of alkaline water helps spider veins.

  1. The abundant antioxidants in alkaline ionized water help to fight free-radicals which are constantly bombarding the circulatory system, at their starting point. When we breathe in, we take in Oxygen, O2 +The majority of this Oxygen is in the form of free-radicals, because each Oxygen pair is missing one electron in its outer ring. It will seek out and steal that electron from surrounding molecules, tissue and cell walls. The first place Oxygen goes is into the circulatory system, where it robs the walls of the veins of its needed electron. Read more about the free-radical theory of aging. Alkaline ionized water has an abundance of anti-oxidants, negatively-charged spare electrons, to donate to the active Oxygen molecules, causing them to neutralize instantly and become more bio-friendly.
  2. It is a well-known fact that when the body rids itself of acidic wastes it rejuvenates the circulatory system of the body. This is otherwise called "cleansing". Alkaline ionized water helps to cleans the body of toxins. When you cleanse the body, and keep the vessels of circulation clean, it makes sense that you will improve the health and strength of those vessels. Read more about the benefits of ionized water.

Drink enough alkaline ionized water to make a difference.

I personally recommend drinking at least 1 gallon of water per day when you’re trying to rid your body of a specific ailment or malady. The suggested formula to determine your minimum daily requirement of water is: Take half your weight in ounces of water every day. So if you’re, say, 200 lbs, that would mean drinking 100 ounces of water per day, or roughly 12.5 cups of water.

Alkaline Water and the Health of Your Feet

Man, summer got here fast. And you know what that means – sandals and open-toed shoes for the next 5-6 months. Let's make sure your tootsies are ready for that kind of exposure all summer long.

Alkaline Water and Toenail/Foot Fungus

I know this is probably either an embarrassing or icky topic to talk about, but I'm sure most of us have dealt with it or know someone who has and it's good to have a solution ready. I have unfortunately had the bad experience of removing my toenail polish and seeing a little black spot on my big toenail. This was about a month after getting a pedicure and I knew that their foot tubs must not have been cleaned properly. I knew better than to go back there again. And I wish I had known about this easy solution to help.

We all have fungus and bacteria lurking around on our feet. It's just whether it takes over and becomes damaging to the toenails and eventually the toenail beds.

But here is a way to stop the fungus in its tracks. This also works well for athlete's foot, which, by the way, is not just for athletes. Anyone can get it. Especially if you walk barefoot in a gym locker room, public swimming pool, hot tubs, etc.

Here's what you will need:

2.5 pH acidic water
11.5 pH alkaline water
A spray bottle
A tub or other receptacle to soak your feet in

Directions:

1. Twice a day, spray the affected area with  2.5 pH acidic water. Do not dry with a towel, but allow to air dry.
2. For severe cases, soak affected areas in 11.5 pH for 20 minutes up to 4 times a week.3. After soaking, pat dry then completely air dry and spray nails with 2.5 pH acidic water and let air dry.4. Moisturize with hydrating lotion.

Along with this daily regimen, I suggest treating your footwear in this fashion:
1. Wash socks thoroughly with 2.5 pH water and allow them to soak.
2. Soak tennis shoe in 2.5 pH water for an hour before washing.
3. Spray inside of shoes thoroughly with 2.5 pH water and allow to dry.

This regimen will also cut down on dry, cracked skin on your heels and toes.

Feel free to let me know how this goes for you and if you have any questions.
